Mitsubishi Motors Reports First Quarter 2026 Sales

PR Newswire

FRANKLIN, Tenn., April 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) today reported first–quarter 2026 sales of 26,884 units. While total Q1 sales declined 15% year–over–year due to the sell–through of the Mirage subcompact sedan—whose production concluded in late 2024—the brand's SUV lineup continued its strong upward trajectory, with combined SUV sales rising more than 10% across the quarter.

With a focus for 2026 firmly centered on SUVs, Mitsubishi Motors remains committed to delivering value and capability through America's Best Backed Vehicles, including three SUV models starting under $30,000.

Stronger inventory levels and the relaunch of a new entry model—the Outlander Sport "S" trim, starting at $24,9951—helped propel Outlander Sport to become the brand's volume leader for the quarter. Sales of 12,076 represent an increase of nearly 75% year–over–year. With a 2WD variant of the model returning later this year, Outlander Sport will further strengthen the lineup and help offset the planned sunset of Mirage sales.

Later in 2026, MMNA will introduce two significant additions to its SUV portfolio: the brand's first battery–electric vehicle and a rugged, off–road–focused Outlander variant. Both models are key milestones in MMNA's Momentum 2030 business plan, which commits to launching at least one new or significantly updated vehicle each year through fiscal 2030.

Eclipse Cross delivered a standout performance with 6,852 units sold, up more than 83% year–over–year and marking the model's second–best quarter ever. Outlander posted sales of 6,780, down approximately 23% from the previous quarter, influenced by the sell-down of MY25 inventory. In Q2 and forwards, Outlander sales will transition to the new 2026 Outlander featuring a new mild hybrid powertrain. The Outlander Plug–in Hybrid improved its QoQ growth trend with 1,144 units sold, an increase of nearly 41% quarter–over–quarter.

News and Notes

  • MMNA recently announced its electrified flagship vehicle, the 2026 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid will arrive in Mitsubishi Motors dealerships in early May, with pricing starting at a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $43,2451. The refreshed vehicle boasts updates and improvements throughout the vehicle, including increased all-electric range, more driving power, an updated interior and exterior, and the critically acclaimed Yamaha audio system so well received in the 2025 Outlander.

  • In January, MMNA provided Nashville-based nonprofit organization Cumberland River Compact with a one-year loan of a 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) as part of its Community Utility Vehicle (CUV) Program. MMNA's partnership will support The Compact's critical work in education, restoration, and outreach programs that enhance the health and enjoyment of the Cumberland River and its tributaries.

  • MMNA incorporated AT&T 5G connectivity into the 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander. This enables even more tech inside, including ultra-fast data speeds, enhanced entertainment options and improved system performance. Going beyond entertainment, over-the-air updates, powered by AT&T 5G, will let Mitsubishi Motors remotely deliver software upgrades and security patches to select vehicle systems. This means Outlanders will stay up to date with the latest technology, improved performance, and enhanced features – all with greater convenience and reduced downtime.
